Lincoln Stumps for Fremont
Lincoln’s efforts to help elect Fremont president are evident in this letter asking why the German newspapers he ordered for distribution, probably the Illinois Staats-Zeitung, have not been delivered. He also requests fifty papers be sent to a fellow Republican in Mount Pulaski and closes with, “Last evening I was scared a little by being told that the enemy are getting the Germans away from us at Chicago — Is there any truth in that?”
