The Lincoln Jubilee
To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the “Emancipation of the Negro,” leaders of Chicago’s African American community staged a grand exposition of African American history and achievement at the Coliseum Building from August 22 to September 16, 1915. The event featured exhibits from several states, foreign countries, and Charles F. Gunther, a local candy manufacturer, who lent his large collection of Lincoln memorabilia, later purchased by the Chicago Historical Society.
