Lerone Bennett Jr.‘s article Was Abe Lincoln a White Supremacist? appeared in Ebony Magazine in February 1968. Bennett’s highly critical view of Lincoln caused considerable controversy in academic circles and among general readers. In 2000, Bennett published the book Forced Into Glory: Abraham Lincoln’s White Dream, which expounded upon questions and themes raised by the earlier article.
