Land of Lincoln

Generations of tourists have visited the Lincoln shrines in Illinois. The pilgrimage includes the re-created village of New Salem where Lincoln lived and worked as a young man. In nearby Springfield, Lincoln’s carefully restored home on Eighth and Jackson Streets and his monumental tomb in Oak Ridge Cemetery are among the most popular historic sites in America. Illinois officially became the “Land of Lincoln” in 1955.
