Lincoln’s “Romance”
This fanciful account of Lincoln’s supposed romance with Ann Rutledge is drawn from Herndon’s Lincoln, a questionable source, rather than sound scholarship. Other early biographies were similar in nature, obscuring or omitting the more difficult issues that Lincoln dealt with in his lifetime.
