Lincoln’s Philadelphia Funeral
The president’s funeral train arrived in Philadelphia on the afternoon of Saturday, April 22. An elaborate hearse drawn by eight black horses transported Lincoln’s casket to Independence Hall where an estimated 300,000 people viewed the body before services concluded early Monday morning. This print served as an advertisement for the Philadelphia undertaker who designed and built the hearse.
